Abstract Aims Surgical consent forms are difficult for patients to interpret. Surveys show that struggle grasp surgical concepts. Procedure specific (PSCFs) improve because they provide a standardised list of complications. However, PSCFs nationally underutilised. Laparoscopic appendicectomies one the most common operations. Our aim was assess variability appendicectomy in preparation inception PSCF. Methods A prospective audit on requiring laparoscopic appendicectomy. Their were assessed legibility, abbreviations and complications included. Lastly, all checked see if patient had been offered alternative treatment option form antibiotics. Subsequently, each contacted asked series questions. Results 17 assessed. 100% included infection bleeding; 88% conversion open; 82% bowel resection damage local structures; 76% blood clots. 18 separate used total, with highly variable inclusion. Of legible, 65% them containing acronyms. indicated therapies discussed. In post-op questionnaire, approximately 80% gave details surrounding their operation what it entailed, however only 64% able successfully recall some basic potential Interestingly, 43% remember being given options treatments. Conclusion The use would be beneficial standardising complication lists also ensuring fully aware therapies.
